In some countries like England the ground we walk on outside for instance on the very dirt and soil is called: the floor!
You are always nit-picking and only when it suits you.
The term 'ground' or 'floor' is never misunderstood even if you exchange one term for the other. It is the context in which it is used that explains the meaning intended. That is the english way.
