Good version of Red ... ( 4 days ago by petsnowflake)
Good version of Red House, but Jimi would've rolled down the gain and turned the amp up. It's a good tone, but Red House wasn't meant to be played with that much distortion. This guy doesn't have the true blues techniques down though. Watch Jimi play Red House at Woodstock and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Gary's got 30 years experience on Jimmy . . . he bloody well knows the "Blues". . . not taking anything away from Jimmy though . . . a pioneer.

I don't like to judge the music I like by how great a musician a person is, but the overall sound of the song. George Harrison was a great musician but none of the "guitar freaks" ever mention him, just like Chris Rea. I love Gary's music because of the emotion and the guitar solos, so lacking in todays music, even quieter songs can be challenging to play for musicians and a pleasure to listen to for us, it doesn't have to be loud all the time. Am I rambling on again?

Go tell Gary that and he will tell what an ignorant ass statement that is.

No, don't be sorry about what you like son.
In what way is it better than Hendrix's version .... And which version are you talking about, by the way. G.C.

"Gary Moore has one of the greatest guitar tones I have ever heard." thesime1987
By today's standards, yes. But there is nothing pioneering about this on the part of Gary. I would like to venture that Stevie Ray Vaughan who mainlined with the blues more than Gary did, developed this bodacious blues tone earlier than Gary did. (Check their relative biographies & compare. Stevie was two years younger than Gary.)*G.C.

I meant Jimmy - being the pioneer - not Gary. . . and only meant that Gary is in his 50's . . . Hendrix died in his 20's . . .
"ignorance ass" is a little strong though Don Corleone. . .
well first of all ... ( 2 days ago by tjstrott25)
well first of all gary has a way better tone. you can feel his playing more than hendrix's. hendrix never really had a good tone, in my opinion. now i'm not trying to knock on hendrix, because i am a fan of his, but i just think gary plays red house better than hendrix.
the reason many say ... ( 2 days ago by fezzappa)
the reason many say hendrix was the best, was because he was an innovator- lets face it,he died in his 20's- he would have gotten better,,many guitarist are technically better than hendrix-and most have been playing a lot longer than jimmy- and over the years got much better equipment- so like in sports,i think it's tough to compare older and newer-
jimi was always so ... ( 2 days ago by fezzappa)
jimi was always so fucked up and he was not a clean guitar player...he messes up alot of notes...but his feeling and innovation are unsurpassed...I just dont think he is close to the best guitarist ever- and the fact that he died i believe at 27 is a key fact- he would have gotten better and had the chance to play with better equipment also-
santana, alvin lee, leslie west, johnny winter, were there with jimmy- and i think just as good on guitar- i loved jimi, dont get me wrong-
You can't say that ... ( 2 days ago by grga888)
You can't say that this version is better than Hendrix's original. Tehnically this version is great and Gary has a great tone, but not better than Hendrix's version. Not even close. Someone may like this version more than Hendrix's version (that is all ok), but a fact is that Hendrix's version is better! After all, Jimi is the best electric guitar player of all times. You can always discuss over who is #2, #3, #4, etc.. But #1 is Jimi, by far. Nobody compares to him and nobody touches his level!

the fact that i dont even know whether to judge this as better or worse then hendrix says alot about how frickn amazing this cover is

Hendrix and Vaughan are both unfortunately no longer with us, and I submit to say there exists no version by a living guitarist that rivals Moore's in intensity, tone, and overall impressiveness.

"beauty is in the ... ( 1 day ago by reaperofgenocide)
"beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
better is a matter of an individuals opinion. Even if one guitarist is a virtuoso and the other is a three chord strummer and one person things the three chord strummer is better then thats an opinion.
But i do agree, hendrix's original was so amazing its just mind blowing.
=( you made me ... ( 1 day ago by reaperofgenocide)
=( you made me remember that jimi is dead... i already knew he was dead but i dont think about it ...
wow if he was alive for just a few more decades we would have more epic guitar tracks. He'd probably innovate something spectacular like a new guitar technique.

I agree with you 100%, however, who is playing in this clip? Thats right, Gary Moore. Not stevie ray. This in entirely my opinion about this peice of footage. Tone is personal taste. I happen to love Stevie tone also. But come on man. why being up something so trivial.
