I don't see why people can't move on if they don't find it funny ... there's a scroll bar. Use it.
The idea is as stupid in its view of homosexuals as it is in its view of heterosexuals. I'm not gay, and I don't like football either--and, finally, I can still laugh at a joke involving football told by a person who apparently enjoys the sport.
It's fence-sitters like you that simply can't make a decision in life, causing all sorts of grief for other people.
Go pour yourself another cup of "why can't we all just get along."
Sedaris just makes stuff up and foists it upon the public, like Fulghum. He doesn't even live in the US anymore, so he's hardly got the pulse of everyday life.

Habrapoesia isn't fence sitting by not concerning his/herself with Sedaris' sexuality. Actually, NOT caring takes less energy and commitment than it does to judge someone about something as arbitrary as sexual orientation.
Whether or not Sedaris lives in the US, or makes up his stories has no relation to how funny he is, or how good his story telling is.
You should re-evaluate you reasoning methods.
Also (while I'm at it) why can't we all just get along?
