The song for Strangelove was "Well Meet Again," but I see what you mean. Here's another interesting tidbit.. when I was about six years old they stopped all above ground testing of nuclear devices because during a test out west fallout blew where they didn't expect it to, poisoning our milk supply for a few weeks, plus we weren't allowed to eat any snow for the same period. You never hear of that anymore, but I remember it clearly. Does anyone else? It would have been in the early '60s.

They're both nuclear. One is Fission, one is Fusion. "Atomic" bombs are fission, e.g., splitting a Uranium 238 atom into two or more smaller atoms, releasing enormous energy. A Fusion bomb is the result of two isotopic forms of hydrogen being superheated and fused into a single helium atom, which has a similar result, but far more powerful.

Usually wars are small border disputes. So obviously if you're fighting about a territory the size of, say, south ossetia (the georgia-russia conflict) and both sides would have nukes it wouldn't have made a bit of difference. Nobody will use nukes when fighting in/about such a small region.
Even in a world war nobody would use nukes before they had lost enough ground to deem the situation hopeless,but the attacker wouldn't drive them to a such a situation, but rather force peace...
