I saw Bill Gaither in March 2004 at The Colonial Center in Columbia, SC. He really put on an inspirational show. My mother saw him at the old Charlotte Coliseum in NC on New Year's Eve, 1998. It's something you can take the whole family to.

Gospel Music is great. A lot of the legends have connections with Elvis Presley. Unfortunately, a lot of them are dying. In this video alone, I know that Jake Hess (wig and mustache) and JD Sumner are no longer with us. Its sad when you see the legends die off. This video is from 1998.

now i'm not a muscian so theres probably people out there that can explain it better than me but, basically when a singer wants to sing in a higher or lower pitch, they will tell the muscians to do it an "octive higher" or an "octive lower" and the melody of the song will then change key.

I hope this makes sense. Melody is the part of the song most familiar.(i.e. when a soloist sings) When a man and woman both sing the melody together (no harmony), usually they're an octave apart unless their ranges are similar etc. So, when the man sings a song with a woman, but he sounds lower than she, but they both are singing the same thing, you normally have an octave. Sometimes they do it in the same octave or more than an octave apart, but that is the best way I can explain it offhand.

Mine too!!! An octave is a set of eight notes--labeled from A to G, then starting over. On a piano, the farthest note to the left is A1. That means it's in the "first" octave. Starting at that note, go up two white keys. That note is J.D. Sumner's lowest note (C1). Starting at the lowest note (A1),go up, counting to "G". That note is G1. The next white key is A2 (The second octave) etc.
