I wish Greg Gumbel would be paired with Terry Bradshaw in games. They can work games on the NFL Network.
Chris Berman: "Grey's Anatomy is next. The Pittsburgh Steelers are world champions for the first time since 1979. Now lets go to Al and John."
Al: "Chris, thanks very much. John, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jerome Bettis have a Super Bowl."
John: "Yeah. This is what its all about. It's the greatest feeling in the world and you're champions. They can never take it away"
They can take the coverage away and we don't have football at ABC anymore but we have the memories. I've been through this with Pat and now I'm going through this with you and I wanna thank you Al for 4 great years working Monday Nights. It's been a pleasure."
Al: "Thank you John for making Monday Nights an event again and I'm going to miss saying welcome to Monday Night Football, stay tuned for your late local news and nightline after that."
John: "Great working with you Al" (Shakes hands)
Al: "Chris back to you"
I liked him with Phil Simms as an analyst and Armen Keteyian as a sideline reporter. That was a great broadcast team and then CBS had to break it up, which was stupid.
Jim Nantz sucks as CBS' #1 announcer. Greg Gumbel was better as CBS' top announcer.
The Baby Brother of Byrant was excellent unlike his older brother.
Nantz's best sport as 'play-play' by far is Golf. I give Jim his props as he one of the best golf broadcasters of all time (along with Jim McKay)but as an NFL Announcer he so-so at best.
I know they have had 'commerical logos' for televised soccer matches for years but they go a half (90 minute w/ no commericals so i understand.)
Slightly off topic but is there anyone out there like me who hates the 'bug/logo' of the network televising the NFL or almost any sport now that continous?
Before it was small. The worst with this now are ESPN/ABC, TNT/TBS & Fox.
Gumbel did a great job calling the 2001 Super Bowl. During that game, Armen Keteyian hustled into the Ravens locker room when Trent Dilfer was injured. That was classic
sports journalism; Keteyian running to get the latest scoop on Dilfer's injury.
Nantz's ego shouldn't have gotten in the way. He's lucky he still has a job at CBS
Only problem is, 49ers fans would be bummed that he would no longer be calling 49er games.
Does Starkey also do California Golden Bear games?
Another Local/Regional Play Play announcer that should be on a network NFL team is NY Giants radio announcer Bob Papa.
Then he joined CBS in 1965-66 season.
