Guy walks into a Toyota dealer — sounds like a joke so far, right? Not quite.
Guy walks into a Toyota dealer looking for a 2008 Toyota Prius. He's heard about hybrids for awhile now, and the Prius is one he knows by name. He vaguely recalls some celebrity bragging about taking one to the Academy Awards instead of a limo, and then there was that South Park episode, "Smug Alert" a couple of years back. And didn't Al Gore's own son make headlines for getting busted doing 100 mph in his Prius?
Something like that. Beyond the hype, Guy's never really given hybrid cars much thought, much less gone looking for one. And even though he can afford a decent-size car or SUV, the price of gasoline has him looking for fuel economy in a serious way.
And there on the showroom floor, Guy sees a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid for almost the same amount of money as a Prius. Now what?

No coward I dont worry about what I spend on gas because Im a MAN with a JOB and I pull down a BIG INCOME not WELFARE so I can AFFORD to buy as much gas as I want to and I dont care about the environment because GOD can do more than some greenies! And our troops are over there FIGHTING so we can burn as much gas as we want to and not be SISSIES like YOU in your SISSY HYBRIDS! Hybrids admit defeat and they divide the country. And really, no one cares how fast a electric motor is. soulless and no fun. despite its socalled power. the gas engine alone could do nearly the same gas mileage w/o the electric motor and battery which weigh as much or more than the gas engine.
its smoke and mirrors to make more money.
50mpg cars should cost about $13-15k thats it. Hybrid is a scam. also 3000lbs. is not easily moved with 70hp.

a 3.5 litre BMW M5 gets better milage than a prius round a track driving at the same speed as the prius's top speed arpund the track. i still dont agree you can burnas much oil as you want, you just can't.

I'm not sure if your educated enough to know this but BMW have inroduced their new "Efficient Dynamics" system on all cars meaning th the engine switches of when it is not needed and starts again when it is i.e. when sitting at a red light

yes it was on Top Gear, can't deny that it got better milage though. BMW have introduced his on all new models, it called efficient dynamics, the enigne switches off and on when the car is stopped i.e. at traffic lights, i maybe didnt explain it properly before.

Once again, tell me why it is that Hybrids that get 45 MPG are better that the 1002 Geo Metro that got 61 MPG or the 1996 GM EV1 that got 90 miles on an overnight electric charge?

I felt compelled to sell off my gas guzler truck and try to support upstart sustainable fuels- I bought a 25yr old Mercedes Diesel and run Biodiesel from a station by my home. Expensive fuel, 25 mpg, not great but supprting new fuels w/ my $

Brand new Prius = $27,000 (or more) for 45mpg at best.
Used Geo Metro = under $4k for well over 50mpg.
The only thing green about the Prius is the green cash you'll have to dish out for it. It's a stupid vehicle, highly popular in Southern California and purchased mainly by the mindless trend followers who live here that can't think for themselves.
