What exactly is so bad about it? This is Brian Wilson at the top of his game. One of the greatest rock/pop songs ever written. No one has topped this song yet! (though some have come close)

top of his game ? what game ? At this point he is a druggie LOON. early beach boys, fantastic. this is the babbleings of a mad man. one turd after another. then the grand finale,VEGETABLES. brian is a joke in this era. GOD BLESS DICK DALE !

Brian was never a "loon". He never got into the hard drugs until the 70s. He was only doing them as a way to self-medicate his then-undiagnosed mental condition. Even during his "lying in bed" period and the Landy era he could still be sharp as hell in the studio when he wanted to be. SMiLE was some of the best work he's ever done. He was just always depressed and didn't want anything to do with the Beach Boys after they disapproved of SMiLE and took creative control away from him.

This was initially ... ( 4 months ago by fromthesidelines)
This was initially broadcast on the CBS News special, "The Rock Revolution", on April 25, 1967, written and narrated by David Oppenheim {who passed away a few months ago}. In his book "Seven Glorious Days, Seven Fun-Filled Nights", Charles Sopkin called this rendition, on initially seeing this sequence on TV, "a golden oldie". He didn't know the song wouldn't be released until its inclusion on "Surf's Up" in 1971...

Gotta say- it falls into the same category as Love's Forever Changes and Morrisons Astral Weeks. Loved more for reputation than anything else and certainly never played on the radio. Listening to Brian's "Finished" version now it seems very unfocussed and ultimately shallow and empty as a listening experience. It starts so well but loses all it's focus in the third movement.

Not even Brian Wilson would say "he beats all the Beatles by himself".
Just enjoy the music and stop indulging in petty bickering about who is "best".

The Beatles AND Brian are genius. Save the hate for the real enemy of music...rap. Brian's voice is angelic.
