There hasn't been peace there for thousands of years. The Romans held it under perpetual martial law, the Israelites massacred the Caanites, the Egyptians freely murdered and enslaved the Caanites. Under Turkish rule the Arabs were allowed to oppress the minorities. The British used the tried and true strategy of dividing and conquering. The Middle East has never been stable. And I really don't think that making the Jews of Palestine live under Arab rule would have prevented any problems.

Finding this stash of songs is like a finding a gold mine to me. I've had these songs imprinted on my brain since I was but a wee boy... Hell, I didn't even understand what made them funny, but I loved them anyway. Later, I came to realize later how pointed these were for the times. It's amazing how all of these songs, many of which were written half a century ago, are still as relevant today as they were then. Here in the UK, Tokenism is the pervading ideology at the moment. You can be qualified up to the eyeballs but to get the job, you really need to have a damn good tan. 'Be nice to ethnics' events of the sort described here contribute nothing to racial cohesion and Lehrer picks up on that oft ignored fact. Watch his tongue and you will see the irony dripping off of it!
