Arthur McBride - Paul Brady 1977

Uploaded by: bilko1234
Video Description:
Definitive version of Paul Brady's classic.
I had to reduce it to under 100 MB to fit it all onto one file.
Well worth it though.....

I think comparison ... ( 3 weeks ago by Domitianvs)
I think comparison is redundant. They're two completely different takes at one song, one preformed solo, one preformed by one of the best groups in music. The only version this one can be compared to is Bob Dylan's version.

I'm a Dylan fan, but his version doesn't come near this. There is so much more emotion in Brady's version in my opinion.

Never said that it comes near, I said that it was the only version of it that was stylisticly comparable with this version, as both are just vocals and guitar, and Dylan's version is obviously inspired by this one. Comparing this setting to that of Planxty is a bit like comparing riding a bike with riding a car. It's two different things, that's why I oppose the comparing between Planxty's version and this one. And for the record I'm a fan of Paul, Dylan as well as Planxty.

This is an Irish anti Brit conscription song.
The Irish, accosted to join the Brit army basically said NO, NO, NO!
The rest of the song portrays a very very violent reaction to that invitation by the Brits.
