Ali at his best (i.e 1967 & b4) was a very hard puncher. He won the title by tko and of his 9 title undisputed World title defences 6 were won by knockout. When they took away his title he was at his peak and his record was 29-0 with 23 ko's. That is a punchers record! Also before winning the title as a contender he reeled of 9 straight wins by ko over decent opposision some of whome had never been stopped. Ali was a big puncher at his best!

Ali was not a big puncher period. After the return to the ring Ali did make some changes in his boxing style. One of them was he set down on his punches more. I was a teenager at the time and an avid boxing fan. I'm 55 years old. I lived to watch Ali. He was my hero and still is BUT he was NOT a big puncher. He got his man out with punches in bunches and he hit guys with punches they didn't c. which is the worst punch to get hit with. He could pop for sure but he was not a puncher per se.

This is nice. Classic footage, Ali got Cosell to mention the issues without asctually saying them... and he supported Ali and his choices, himself being a Jew who was persecuted on his way to the top and could relate with Ali better than any other media member. He denied defending him here, but he did defend him and loved him like a son, especially when he got older and was near death. Great footage!
