While it helps to be "beautiful" to get signed, you cannot completely blame that for them not getting signed. I mean, look at bands such as Buckcherry and Hinder for example. That is a whole lot of ugly and they each have multiple hit songs in the last five months. Not enough people are into the whole accoustic alternative sound.

popular music is also loud... more fast paced. the shins are a lot more mellow...
it doesnt really take talent to get into the business nowadays.. it's all about making yourself visually appealing and making songs that the general public will like.
the shins are really talented... they deserve it, but i dont think it bothers them that they aren't on mtv or anything. they make a good amount of money, and they love doing what athey do.

My favorite song, but not the Shin's best performance in a long shot. He is singing like he is a little shy on this one and I can not figure it out...But, I saw in live in Lawrence, KS and the entire concert was just great. I am 27, and I have not falled for a band so much since Pearl Jam back in the early 90's...
