Uploaded by: MisterCanning
Video Description:
Side 1 of a 78 rpm recorded in 1953 - There is a Tavern in the Town - offers Wally Cox at his usual comedic best.
Wally was a childhood and lifelong friend of Marlon Brando. He was the titled star of the early to mid 1950s live tv sitcom, Mr. Peepers. Cox provided the voice of superhero Underdog in the NBC cartoon classic of the same name during its late 60s to early 70s tv run. In the years leading up to his death in 1973, he was the mainstay in the upper left square on the NBC television game show, The Hollywood Squares.

There Is A Tavern In The Town
Oh, there is a tavern in the town, in the town
And there my true love sits him down, sits him down
And he drinks his wine as merry as can be
And never, never, never, never, never thinks of me.
Fare thee well, for I must leave thee
Do not let this parting grieve thee
For you known that the very, very, very, very best of friends
Must part, must part.
Adieu, adieu, adieu, kind friends adieu, yes adieu
I can no longer stay with you, stay with you
So I shall hang my heart on a weeping willow tree
And may the, may the, may the world go well with thee.
He left me for a damsel dark, damsel dark
Each Friday night they used to spark, used to spark
And now my love once true to me
Takes that dark damsel on his knee.
Fare thee well, for I must leave thee
Do not let the parting grieve me
And remember that the best of friends
Must part, must part.
Adieu, adieu kind friends, adieu, yes adieu
I can no longer stay with you, stay with you
I'll hang my heart, my heart on a weeping willow tree
And may the world go well with thee.
Oh! dig my grave both wide and deep, wide and deep
Put tombstones at my head and feet, head and feet
And on my breast carve a turtle dove
To signify I died of love.
Fare thee well, for I must leave thee
Do not let the parting grieve me
And remember that the very, very, very best of friends
Must part.
Adieu, adieu kind friends, adieu, yes adieu
I can no longer stay with you, stay with you
So I shall hang my heart on the weeping willow tree
And may the, may the, may the world go well with thee
And may the world go well with thee.

Wally passed away at the fairly young age of just 48, in early '73.
We can only guess at the additional success he might have accomplished, if his life hadn't been cut short.
Thank you for stopping in :-)
"He was truly a very funny guy, offbeat and hilarious. Nice memories of a much nicer time."
I'll have to give you 2 big thumbs up for those comments :-)
Wow!
Hey, Chalomiro63
Wally came across as a quiet, gentle, petite type of a fellow. But the press of the day reported that in actuality Wally always said that he was not anything atall like his public meek figure - and also in the shirtless department, as when he removed his shirt, he had a beefed up chest that would match any of the other macho fellows like Brando, etc.
Chalomiro63,
Equipment needed: Start/All Programs/Windows Movie Maker.
(Pssssssst, let me know after you have used that built-in Windows program that comes with most computers, so that I can check out your first video.)
Much appreciated that you told me the video brought back some warm memories for you.
That era was definitely a kinder and gentler time compared to what we see around us in this day and age. Those days made for some great memories, fer sure.
Thanks for dropping in.
'cause at the rate I'm going already, I'll have a 'tousand' videos created before the weekend is over LOL :-)
So Chalomiro63, when you say ... you had no say in the matter ... maybe your parents heeded the words of ol blue eyes and did it their way and headed down to the good ole U.S. of A to raise their family :-)
You have a super great night.
All the best and thanks for your interest.
