| When I say this I am not trying to start a comment war here, but I remember when I was in middle school. Bands like the get up kids and Braid used the term emo. I, my friends and other fans did use the term emo back then. You are right; the first term emo did mean hardcore punk in the 80's. But the term did change in mid 90's. James Dwees said the get up kids were an emo band. Emo dose not mean indie, but it is in the same family. Or it did once. |

| The way that people used to use the term 'emo' and the way that they use it now ar two comepletely different things. I'm not talking about what the word defines in terms of music, but more in terms of insults. People term things emo now as an insult, and it works. Part of that is because band now go out of their way to fit into a genre of music, eg. metro station and that bullshit. Back in the day though, the term 'emo' was just as respecatble as hardcore etc, it was just a genre |

| Yeah... well, I wondered what The Get Up Kids sounded like [shitty pop-punk] and this video made me really angry because the guys act like a bunch of jocks and I actually get treated like that girl does. So if you thought I was being funny, well I was, but it's mostly because I was angry because I hate being stepped on. I tried to find irony, but the song is just... bad. |
