Sport compacts have it hard. Cars like the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX and the 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 — along with competitors like the Honda Civic Si, Mini Cooper S and Volkswagen GTI — are expected to do mutually contradictory things with something approaching perfection. They're supposed to be quick but economical; athletic but comfortable; sporty but practical. Oh yeah, and they can't cost a lot.
Go ahead and dream the impossible dream.

| I drive in Oregon and Washington on road trips.Two wheel drives are usless here in the winter unless you don't mind driving like a Granny and chaining up on the mountain passes.I'll call you a tow truck as I drive by while you are 75 miles from anywhere stuck in a snow bank. |

| if you want a stock rocket, MS3 is very awesome, but the stock tires have terrible tread wear, so plan on spending around $400-800 within the first 2 years on new tires. Also, the boost is limited in the first 2 gears because of the poor traction the tires get and engine movement. the engine mounts need to be replaced to avoid tire spin and wheel hop. It has a bigger turbo than the WRX but for tuners, the AWD and tunability of its 2.5L Subi boxer make these 2 very comparable for aftermarket guys |

| I completely agree. I have an 03 and this new one is just a real let down. And only the wagon? EH! I have the sedan and it is perfect why would they do that? They kind of lost me with this now one. |

| ??? I just came out of a 06' wrx with a 6spd swap and rotated 30r (it was totaled). I bought a 08' Mazdaspeed 3, its hands down a far superior car, much more power stock, suspension is amazing, interior is great, brakes are 1" larger. Only thing missing is AWD for the rain and snow. The mechanical LSD on the mazda works very well. I will admit the subaru is the way to go if u want big power, but after blowing a trans. and engine on the subaru I'll stick with the MS3. |

| so what if hatchbacks are ruling in wrc? how does a car being a hatchback make it more competitvie than a sedan? is there any handling advantage? i wouldn't think so. |

| that I couldnt tell you. this was the explanation that i have heard. I still dont understand why they didnt ALSO have the sedan. Maybe they are just copying EVERYTHING mazda does. The speed3 only comes in hatch as well. I do wana see what my 08 WRX will do against a stock 09 now that I have a few mods. |

| Why can't u Subbie-lovers get over th fact that Mazda made a good car? Yeah but th AWD better in the snow blah blah. Yeah so'r snow-shoes but u don't see me walkin round wearin them all year round do ya? The majority of us live in climates where snowfall's rare to none, even when it does snow that's what plows'r for, so congrats u'l be the 1st one on th road the few days that it snows & you have to be up before th plow comes. STFU bout the snow thing y'all sound like a broken record. |

| actually, with the stock tires on the MS3, it sucks in the rain too. but I love the MS3, and I drive a 08WRX. My wrx has about $2500 in it, and is faster than an MS3 from a dig now, but at highway speeds, the MS3 is all over me. With just an upgraded engine mount, CAI and BOV, my buddys MS3 hauls ass, except in the rain or snow. But i can still beat him in the 1/8th by quite a bit. 1/4 will be different, and he can out handle me on dry surfaces all day long. mad respect for mazda. |

| that guy failed to mention over all handling ie around bends, general cornering and a shitty front wheel drive car with all that power cant cope. A guy from volvo once said the absolute maximum power for a front wheel drive car is 200bhp, any more and the front wheels cant cope with steering and powering the car at the same time, id have the scooby any day of the week, well an sti version any way, it can cope with 400 plus horse power if you chose to modify it, the mazda is pushing it as it is |

| Um, if you actually drive an MS3, i think you would be supprised. They have better traction on the skidpad than the WRX and is faster from a roll. The WRX gets it from a dig because of the AWD, but the MS3 is incredibly fast at highway speeds, where the WRX cant compete, and is even better in the twisties. The WRX beats it on traction from a dig, and traction in adverse weather. But for about 3K less, the Speed3 is an awesome car. |

| Although i still like my wrx better cause i know i can get over 400whp with just bolt ons and be able to stick all that to the ground with the AWD. I can upgrade the suspension to handle like an MS3 for about $700 and after that it will run circles around most of the cars around my area, including modded MS3s. |
