he's very miscast but i think he does a good job, and i dont think he's any more over the top than holly hunter is (who has proven herself since raising arizona to have at least ten times cage's talent). i would say i like cage in this movie more than i like him in most of his other movies when he's for all intents and purposes just playing himself.

he is an ugly, boring, depressing person who doesn't get into his characters. he thinks he is cool enough to just naturally slip into them, but instead he just comes off looking like an awkward douchebag who tries to invent quirks for his characters. but he can't do it like the best actors can. daniel day lewis is no longer himself when he shoots a scene. nicholas cage is the same ugly, boring moron. i can't believe the coens allowed him to be cast in this role.

I hate Nicholas Cage. I despise him. But his role in Raising Arizona is not only the one I can remotely stand, I actually think it's one of the best roles of '87. I used to live in Southern Arizona, and I can tell you from experience that he perfectly matches the abysmal degenerates that live those depressing desert trailers. "An ugly, boring depressing person"- That is the sole reason he is amazing in this role. His role is all of those characteristics you've just described.

Agreed, hate is a strong word. How can I claim to hate these actors? I don't have to justify anything, I can claim to hate anyone. I hate Cage, but I thing his acting abilities are incredible. Actors tend to have different characteristics than the roles they play. As an actor, I respect him. As a person, not so much. I think peanutface is stupid because Nicholas is perfect for the role, I just don't like the person. Deal.
