1975 Rose Bowl - USC vs Ohio State

#4 USC's 1974 Pac-8 title sent them to the Rose Bowl to face the Big Ten champion, 2nd-ranked Ohio State. With OSU leading by 7 going into the final minutes of the game, Pat Haden threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Mckay in the corner of the endzone. Instead of kicking the extra point and taking the tie, Coach John McKay decided to go for two, and Haden completed another pass for the conversion. USC's 18-17 win, coupled with Alabama's loss to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl, vaulted them to #1 in the UPI poll and their second national title in 3 years. Oklahoma was #1 in the AP poll, but was on probation at the time and so was not included in the UPI poll.

The '74 Rose Bowl was Ohio St 42 USC 21 but USC thrashed Ohio St. the year before 42-171 Remember Sam "Bam" Cunningham's 4 TD's up and over. Then USC won this game to take 2 out of 3. By the way the '74 Rose Bowl was the last time OhioSt. has beaten USC!

Usc beat these teams that had winning records Oregon St., #24 Cal, #6 Arizona St. and #13Illinois. They also beat Nebraska which did not post a winning record but at the time USC played them they were ranked #14. A lot of teams quit on their seaon after getting hammered by USC.
