porche75: America isn't profiting from the war, Bush's buddies are. Furthermore, it was the US that pushed for war when few were interested, and of course you must remember Bush's famous quote, "You're either with us or with the terrorists". Not much of a grey area there. Whatever I'm worried about would not push me to engage in a ridiculous costly war against a country uninvolved in 9/11 according to the Sept 11 Commission and even Bush himself.

Okay so let me get this straight, Canada has allegedly long wait times (inconclusive) and the problem is that everyone has health care? That seems a bit heartless. But that is beside the point, universal health care does not equal communism.

Yeah what I guess we have to fight this charge anytime it surfaces, or accuse Republicans of fascism. But making (comparatively small) exaggerations leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And it is not a mainstream sentiment. But the Democrats = Communist charge is fairly mainstream. Maybe Democrats just have to make Republicans take for granted that they are going to be called fascists. It's a problem Democrats have, over thinking arguments.

As well the US has supported many brutal Fascist leaders throughout its modern history. kamijk: The US system is better than the Canadian one if you have money, and lots of it. The College of Physicians and Surgeons not only protects but hides even the most blatant malpractice activities of its doctors. The system of specialist referals is costly and totally unnecessary. There is no motivation to improve a patient's condition, but there is motivation to ram through as many patients as possible in a day to increase personal profit. The universality of the system is its best feature.

Besides, my money is on al-Qaida. They're motivated, have no recruiting issues, have superior tactics, have significant financial resources, and truly hate their enemy.
The US will eventually withdraw and Afghanistan will sink into a civil war between the drug lords we are now supplying (Norther Alliance) and the Taliban.
The victory against the US will be very beneficial to the brutal radical Muslim leadership.

No they get emergency care only. The rest of us get it too. It is not the best health care available, not by a long shot. You could argue that because illegal immigrants don't pay taxes they aren't paying for it but many illegal immigrants do pay taxes.

Al Queda is losing their support amongst the people.You think the Afghan government and more important the afghan civillians will allow this band of thugs to operate with impunity in it's terrority.You saw what happened to Al Queda in Iraq...they were rejected by people and are getting their ass whooped.and LOL at suicide bombings being a superior tactic...that is the tactic of someone who knows that he cannot win.I silently cheer everytime those morons blow themselves up.

mrbronze013: Good points you brought up, but I still think it's more a matter that the West will tire of the conflict. You're right, the fanatical elements that terrorize the local population surely can't be popular. But remember, the US and the West are arming the drug lords in Afghanistan, those we pleasantly named the Northern Alliance. They are every bit as brutal as the Taliban, except they are drug traffickers as well. A brutal civil war will break out between all groups when we leave.

badtown88: Well I rememember Bush standing on some carrier bragging about how the war was won. Well that was 5 years ago, and now the US in Iraq, and the Allies in Afghanistan are embroiled in a war that's costing billions with no end in sight.
Instead of trying to rebuild those societies, as would have happened in the Roman Empire, the West is just siphoning off profits through lucrative contracts. Some communities still don't have electicity, and these are completely under our control.
