sometimes i let them hang down but usually i tie them in a bow. nowadays i do a smaller version of this bun using an extra large elastic band to make the pony. in that case there are no ties.

Sleeping in flexi rods is a nightmare. In this case I didn't set my hair while it was wet. I just applied some aloe vera gel to dry hair then rolled. That way it only needs to stay in for 2 or 3 hours, maybe less.
