actually they've always had this dancey funky groove in them, listen to early demos like Rattlesnake In A Big City, Phillipa Chicken, etc. Thom Yorke used to DJ in college didn't he? from what i gathered he's always been a fan of dance music...

...and it definitely shows on tracks like Pearly, Planet Telex, Airbag, even Inside My Head and Indian Rubber (listen to those drums, they totally groove), Talk Show Host of course, and later on tracks like Optimistic, I Might Be Wrong, There There, Backdrifts, A Punchup At A Wedding (!!! hello).

but i totally see what you mean in regards to the transformation...if you compare OK Computer, Kid A and Hail To The Thief for example, HTTT sounds undeniably much much MUCH warmer and dancier. 15 step definitely sounds like it's afro-inspired :) "reeeeeal deep exotic badasses"...i like that :P

they have used their influence of dance music ever since ok computer - dj shadow is a big influence on that album.this sound however is i think due to jonny's love of reggae. he's apparently a bit of mogal. whatever it is that has made them create this it's undeniably wonderful i think you'll all agree.

i think he is actually just syncing a part of the loop right there. where it is like really heavy delay that builds up. if you notice earlier in the song the beat changes/breaks down before guitar comes in and he doesnt do anything. hes a maniac nonetheless.

jonny is just playing with his pedals. colin is controlling the loops with a midi controller.

ok seriously.
First of all lets give Phil the credit he deserves for pulling off all of that amazing drumming. Secondly, Jonny is simply amazing for that vaccuum sound that is clearly him doing god knows what on his pedals ---- how he gets that sort of modulation going on and THEN pitch shifts it, I may never know. Ed does a hell of a job on the Kaoss pad, and the Colin and Thom are perfect as per usual....

nah man, watch colin at 1:57, you can see him switch off the precussion loop from the midi controller that he uses to control sounds from on quite a few songs, like the gloaming for example.

I don't think he fucked up the ending...the ending was just different at the time of this performance....I kind of wish the album version was like this...with faster guitar and a more Middle Eastern feel to it.
