I think you can infer the literal meaning of the statement oO690Oo (LOL). As for the metaphor, I think it is just his "bare" instincts reaction to the situation (a girl's right in front of him). It has something to do with his true personality (I could barely understand the masks conversation. Sorry if I can't give a clear answer).

Not sure what part you don't understand, so I hope this will help somehow. Most humans, if not all, have many different faces. For example, you may have a different "face" when at work, a different one with your friend and perhaps another different one with your lover. All of us have facets of our personality we never, or rarely, let "out". We keep it inside and show it to those closest to us. A good example of that is men "never crying", except in front of a few people. Is that clearer? :)
