His second wife actually died in 1986 not 1989. Just clearing things up! =) According to some sources and his first wife, Anna Massey, Brett was said to be bisexual but whatever orientation he was, he was still a magnificently talented actor...best Sherlock Holmes ever!

I agree with you, people persist in tagging SH as a homosexual, but I dont think he was at all.
Reason being is that in victoria&eduardian times people kept their sexual and intimate lives very very very private, it was a very strong taboo against it.
I am sure watson or indeed conan doyle would've never written in a story describing holmes using the services of a prostitute, which was quite common for men at the time but never talked abt,it would've been like writing abt SH taking a crap.

Hmm you know I think people should stop talking about is private life. *feels bad for getting into the discussion earlier* The only good thing about discussing it can be people becoming more liberal and open minded, but... He was a very private person and just because he's not here anymore doesn't mean his privacy should be any less respected. It is 12 September today... On that day Jeremy went to sleep for the last time in his life and never woke up again... And with him he took enermous amount of love and kindness to the other world. I always think that Sherlock Holmes, himself, died on that autumn day!

Oh hmm I see... though he didn't have an easy ride out by any means. He suffered with the effects of heart failure for quite sometime. Unfortunately it wasn't the case of having a heartattack and passing. At least it was in his sleep he finally went...
