I know even Banastre Tarleton would never do anything that Tavington did in the movie. Both Tavington's and Mel Gibson's character's actions were based on those of the Nazis in WWII. The Nazis burned down a church filled with civilians, women, and children and also used children to spread the Nazi regime. Clearly Mel Gibson is prejudice towards the British people. He even left out the Scottish regiments in the British Army.
