Shame on all the people that bought the right-wing hit job on Obama. Fact 1.) Obama went to a Muslim school for two years that was NOT a Madrassa. He is a confrimed Christian. Fact 2.) Obama DOES stand for the pledge of allegience. These rumors were started by insidious right-wing "Swiftboat" types. They are terrorists themselves and their desire for hegemony and absolute domination is a much worse threat to our democracy than any percieved threat from overseas.

Good stuff, Jacob. You hit the nail on the head. The nomination process is definitely disfunctional, but people need to vote regardless.
One other thing we have to do--demand fair, open and verifiable elections. It is our Constitutional right and our duty to keep elections clean. Nothing matters if we can't trust the vote count.

Can we get a REAL option? ALLLLLL the Candidates SUCK. How about someone who actually had to WORK at some point in thier life. Who is going to fix Healthcare? Fix the immigrant issue? Defend us from these Terrorists? Let Technology move forward without having to battle a Lawyer at every corner? Take care of Iran BEFORE they take care of us? I can go on & on & on. We need a Candidate with a HUGE sack of balls & is ready to use them.

I think part of the problem with low voter turnout is due to the US system of voting. First, there is pre-primaries debate. Which in this election has lasted forever, and people are tired of hearing about Hillary and Obama. This election hasn't lasted months: it's lasted YEARS!
Furthermore, I am sure that if one votes in the primaries for one's favourite candidate, and he doesn't receive the final nomination, it is easy to be disillusioned by the time the real election comes around.

Hillary is the only candidate who wants to completly solve the healthcare problem. Clintn also has been working on immigration reform and has a plan to allow only those who are working hard to become citizens. She is the one who has announced plans to invest money in clean energy sources that will creat jobs and reduce dependence on foreign oils. She favors not using force as a first resort but instead using it only if diplomatic efforts fail. She's tested! She's ready! Let's make it happen!

in wisconsin, when you vote you are automatically added to the available juror list and are selected for jury duty. i am sure there are many states operating in this fashion. voter turnout will always be low until this name passing is stopped

the vote for the Iraq war was 98 in favor - 0 oppose. so it wouldn't make a difference. there was no other candidate that voted against the Iraq war.

The only way the populace will get voting back on the rise in this country is if a) we have better candidates, b) the people actually start giving a shit and campaign for media reform and get involved in political orgs. and c) we look at the big picture instead of focusing on the little things. Ron Paul was the only guy who saw the big picture in the GOP debates. Everyone else had their special slogans, lies and soundbytes. I'm voting for Mike Gravel or Nader. They are truly qualified.

Voters need to stop being so disconnected from their actions. If you vote for a crappy politician who does the worst things in office, whose fault is it?? Well, it's partly yours because you gave him that power. You couldn't be hassled, you claim, to do a little research on the person and actually find out if he's a worthy candidate, and not just another politician. You got 'fooled' into voting for crap instead of thinking hard and making the right choice. I don't make that mistake.

The problem with "get out the vote" drives and things like "vote or die" or "rock the vote" is that they don't really go after the root causes of why Americans don't vote as much. They don't try to convince Americans as to why they need to start voting for good people in office, and they have to stop being so pessimistic and feeling hopeless. We CAN do something about these problems if we all band together. You can't just ask people to vote who think voting's a waste and hope to change much.
