The Mod fashion was tailored suits, Italian scooters and the original music was soul, reggae (ska) or RnB. This is Mod revival and the music is punk as inspired by the punk movement. They even appeared on some punk compilations from the time.

Punk as in the music started in the states and basically means "unproffessional" and is 3-cord garage rock inspired by the Kinks "You really got me going". McLaren (former NY Dolls manager) saw the evolved music (& image) in NY and when back in London created the Sex Pistols from former cover band "the Strand".
