Seeing Richard telling us the rules reminds me that there is a big flaw with Countdown Rules. What's to stop someone with a narrow lead from holding that lead by picking all vowels and all high numbers thus rendering the entire game a shlub?

Wow what an amazing time trip. Whiteley really young-looking, Carol only doing the calculations, not putting up any cards, the rules having to be explained, everything's slow. They had 6 studio staff - presenter, mathematician, letter-placer, number-placer, dictonary-checker, dictionary-checker's assistant. No wonder they got Carol to do all the placing and made the dictionary-checkers guests, they must have saved some money (until Carol started hiking her fee).

Especially the numbers game - they have one woman (Beverley) to put the numbers up, and another (Carol) to work out the calculations.
I'm glad they had Carol do the whole thing as the programme progressed.
So sad she should now be so ill-treated by Channel 4.
