Wrong, wrong, wrong. Bobby Thompson's homerun won the PENNANT, which means he won the National League Championship. The Giants won the pennant and went to the world series afterwards. They lost to the Yankees in 6 games.

Thompson's HR came in a come-from-behind-in-the-9th context AND a 13 games out during the season context. It was doubly dramatic. Mazeroski's HR came while the game was tied and the Pirates had no season long drama to get there.

To compare baseball to rounders is like comparing soccer to rugby union or league.
Check the number of countries playing - every continent qualifies for the Olympics.
Instead of bagging other sports try to appreciate their skills.
Incidentally, the inaugural World Baseball Cup in 1938 was won by Great Britain. Cuba is the strongest nation since.
