First time I have ever said this, but I agree with Larry Merchant. Manfredy could have taken a knee and survived that round. But then you have to pose the question, how much longer to a stoppage KO? Because Floyd would have finished his ass off in no more than two rounds.

I remember this fight, i had only read about mayweather and saw Manfredy beat gotti a few months prior. It was def an early stoppage by the ref. Manfredy was riding a high at this point and i think if the bout had continued it would've been a good one. In the end i'm sure mayweather would've gotten the better of him but this 2nd round loss was def the turning point of manfredy's career. didn't hear much about him after this.

i dont think it was an early stoppage, i mean the guy wasnt throwing back and he was getting rocked with hooks, and you have to look at where the ref is standing cuz hes the one making the decision. i remember seeing that fight of gatti and manfredy but i never saw this one until you tube posted it. it looked like it would have been a good fight had it went on. he should have taken a knee

Yes, you have to be smart and take a knee. People get on refs a lot for stopping fights but those punches do a lot of damage that fighters will have to deal with post-fight.
