I, too, am at best ambivalent towards Mike Love. Yes, he is essential to The Beach Boys history simply because of the ontological reality of his historical function. But he never has had the *slightest* fraction of the talent with which his genius cousin Brian has gifted us all for so long.
Who knows what The Beach Boys' music might have been if Mike Love a) had rhythm; b) could sing in tune; and c) wasn't such an unmitigated asshole?
