No it's not; this is hardly what Elvis Presley served up with "That's Alright", "Hound Dog" and "All Shook Up". If you can't see that and think this song sums all of that up (not to mention "Everyday" by Buddy Holly; "Ooby Dooby" by the Big O & so much more) then you know nothing about Rock N Roll!
This song was ... ( 1 month ago by lehec123456)
This song was written in 1947, 7 years before that's all right mamma...If you listen well, you will also reconize almost the same guitar solo of "Rock this joint" from Bill Haley, written in 1952 (5 years later).
Move it on over is definitly the first pre-rock and roll song that influenced lot of 50's rock and roll singers like Elvis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry (think of Maybellene) and also today's artists like George thorogood, The Stones, etc...

If you read what I was saying you should have seen that I was in dissagreement that this record contains "all rock´n´roll of the 50ies". For that to be true those very acts you mentioned (Elvis, Roy O, Carl P) would have had to have contributed NOTHING to Rock N Roll, which is not the case!

You are so right. This was one of the songs in which most later rock n roll was rooted.

If you read well, I said pre-rock and roll song. As you probably already know, Rock and roll is a mix(evolution?) of country and R&B. If you get a chance, listen to Rock this joint from Bill Haley and you'll hear almost the second guitar solo of this song.

This song had a huge influence on the future of Rock music. So many of the first Rock stars mention Hank and this song particularly as being a big influence on them. I believe it was Jerry Lee Lewis who said, ''had the record producers not controlled the production Hank Williams recordings, Rock N Roll might have happened in Alabama in the late 40's/early 50's.

It's good to see the discussion about this. I actually want to research it eventually!
There are alot of elements of blues in this song. The backbeats make it sound very much like early rock. I've always looked at this song as one of the "Missing Links." Between the blues of the early century and rock of the 50's. JMH2cents.
The first Rock n' ... ( 1 week ago by whateverfukinever)
The first Rock n' Roll song! IMO. But then again maybe not because the Maddox Brothers and Rose were doing Rockabilly sounding songs as far back as the 1930s and early 40s. It was just Hillbilly music with a backbeat and replaced the banjo and fiddle with an electric guitar. Long before there was rock n' roll there was Rockabilly, the orignal rock n' roll. : )

George Thourougood(spellcheck) doesn't write a damn thing as far as I know. Almost all of "his' songs aren't his at all, they are mostly remakes/covers of old Country, Blues and Rockabilly songs. But they're still cool to listen to : )
