I would guess that most people who gamble do so for fun, not to make a living. Let's say someone deposits $50 at a site and plays on that for a few months. Win or lose, they got good entertainment value.
As for pros, BR management is something they have to master to remain pros.

If I had to guess about players who lose huge chunks, I'd say it's not all poker. At least two have lost huge chunks of money to drugs. Still not worried about Daniel but he did go through a divorce and I imagine his ex got paid. Then there's the fact that many really are gamblers. Not just poker players but gamblers through and through.
I can't hate on them for being human...
Again, speculating, but I know when I play online I give myself just two rebuys. Three strikes and I'm out. I added it to Chris Ferguson's rules for BR management, it keeps me from Martingale Syndrome. I wonder how many pros start to Martingale when losing...
