Pony Poindexter on alto?
Did a little ... ( 11 months ago by frankp316)
Did a little research on this as I posted the clip on my blog. It looks like it was filmed in 1966 around the time Ted Curson recorded The Urge in The Netherlands for Fontana Records. That would mean the bass player is Jimmy Woode. But Ervin is the only sax on that session it looks like the band in this clip never recorded together. It's a great clip and newly didcovered jazz footage is so valuable.

The world could always use more Booker Ervin videos. That tone alone could make my heart stop. (Everyone else is awesome though)

LOVE Booker Ervin!! ... ( 2 months ago by PeekaPeep)
LOVE Booker Ervin!!! He's in my personal top 5 ALL-TIME favorite tenormen (along with Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Ike Quebec, and Stanley Turrentine). I can see why Charles Mingus had him featured as a principal soloist on many of his classic big band recordings during the late-50s/early-60s period. Shame he never got recognized the same way Coltrane and Sonny Rollins did as he was indeed one of their peers and just as influential. Died fairly young, too. Did I mention he was self-taught???
