In addition, this game is shown through the eyes of a bunch of mercenaries serving in the Ustio Air Force. None of the characters in AC5 plays a significant role in the story. (most appear as Easter eggs such as Pops, Bartlett, Ashley, and Michael without any lines)

thats what i get from replaying the game for the 50th time heheh. Im trying to get all 4 planes for every single type of planes. In addition, im not the kind of guy who like to skip the cutscenes so i rewatch it again and again and again. The only two monologues i remember well though is that Pop's one down there and Pixy's monologue in the final cutscene.

aww come on. Ace is not that difficult. The key to survival in Ace is not taking any chances considering the fact that one missile = BOOM and 3 bullets = BOOM.

im kind of sad that the squadron i had the hardest time defeating was the Yellow Squdron . None of the aces in 5 and Zero gave me a hard time. (except the squadron with the Su-47s in Zero and thats because they spammed missiles like crazy)

Yellows defeated in 3:14 my first time around, but man were they fun, Gault was a bit longer, but it was like a missile storm with them, Mobious 1 on Zero was also fun, not hard to avoid him, but his zig-zaggyness was a pain in the butt xP

Strigon Team in AC6 are a good fight, but they aren't really an ace Team; you shoot down something like 30 of them in the course of the campaign although not all are priority targets, some are more of an annoyance, especially on ground-attack levels. Yellow is a good challenge too, they took me quite a while when i played AC04. Talking of missile storm, mission 12 in AC6 campaign is like that: you vs 40 aircraft and you have to hold out until the reinforcements arrive nearly impossible on Expert

bsidesandrarities - I fully agree on the Strigon point. They're more of minor annoyances or slightly tougher enemies rather than "aces", and only Pasternak puts up a good fight - he still needs 30+ drones and a superplane that can defy the laws of physics to do that, however.
The aces in ACZ are fairly challenging opponents, and AC04 - well, you learn to fear the Yellows pretty quickly because you can't shoot any down until Stonehenge, making them seem like a pretty big deal.

I've gotten S's on all but two missions in AC6. The other two are A's. I've been playing Ace Combat since I was ten, and I must say, I still think that Yellow squadron are the hardest aces to fight. Although needless to say, Gault squadron was a pain in the ass. And I have been shot down by Schwartz squadron on more than one occasion. I guess that's my punishment for playing on ace mode.

I rented this game, and I'm sorry to say - I wasn't that impressed with it. Didn't seem like there was any new material from AC5 The Unsung War.
Feel free to let me know what makes it better than The Unsung War and I might get it to add to my AC stock.

The good thing about ACZ is that this game gives you the very best dogfighting experience of all AC series.
Pros: You get to dogfight several Belkan, Osean, and Sapin aces depending on what Ace rank you are. One wingman but a VERY good one, it even has his own story...The GAUNTLET mission which allows you to get a chance to fight the legendary MOBIUS 1 on Ace Mode.
Cons: Story is too short :( almost same materials used, which is arguably true.

Anyway, okay so maybe the story wasn't AS epic as The Unsung War (come on, even Fires of Liberation (Ace Combat 6) could hardly keep up.)
But still, I don't want to be a spoiler if you haven't completed the campaign mode but you will come to realize that this installment's last surprise would be far different to other AC series. :)
And once again, who wouldn't love to dogfight The Blue Ribbon to test their skills while their ass is on the line with this baby? ;D
