What Krugman and ... ( 5 months ago by ourearthhome)
What Krugman and all other commentators do not say is that the housing bubble is in truth a land speculation bubble. Houses do not go up in value but land does and that is what has been speculated with. The reason for this is that land values are created by the community and not by individual land/real estate owners and therefore there is enormous incentive to go after and capture values that individuals do not create. The American dream. It is speculative land value that has disappeared.

moniequa But please remember that bullshit is manure out of which can grow nourishing food, in this case, for thought. Isn't it obvious that since land is not a product of human labor using tools it must get its market value from some other source namely, all of us as a whole, as society, as community? For some small percentage of us to collect that value into our own private pockets it must mean that it is collected at the expense of all the rest of us who do not "own" our own planet home.

Prices have doubled ... ( 3 months ago by Einstiensblackid)
Prices have doubled since '97. And that's the bubble/crash he's talking about. The "less land" part of the equation cant account for much more than 10% of that price movement.
Do a google image search on "history of real estate values US" and you'll see exactly what the problem is.
Wrong. If that ... ( 2 months ago by UsualMike)
Wrong. If that were true, we would also see a bubble in the commercial real estate market. This market has been relatively unaffected. That is because commercial real estate was not where investors were plowing their funds after the tech bubble deflated in 2001 -- it was housing.

Boy. You must feel truly silly now for poo poo'ing this. Particularly given this vid was done 2 years ago, and you commented a mere 2 months ago... and voila... housing, credit, lending crisis of unprecedented proportions.
I don't think Krugman likes being right... especially about doom and gloom, but his past record is one that you dismiss him at your peril (Argentina, Asian market crisis, and now, World Financial Crisis).
Well, now that the ... ( 2 weeks ago by godivademaus)
Well, now that the US is bailing out the credit, banking, lending industry, Lehman is bust, and the reason is the subprime mortgage crisis and the "housing bubble" it would appear you are now wearing it.
Are you dyslexic, ... ( 2 weeks ago by UsualMike)
Are you dyslexic, or just illiterate? I was responding to the comment someone made about the commercial real estate market, which has nothing to do with the current housing slump.
But, since you mentioned it, no one believes Krugman anymore. He has been predicting US economic collapse since the early 1990s. Much like the boy who cried wolf, people get tired of him talking about recession, especially during times when the economy is growing. Doom and gloom sells papers but makes bad policy.

Gee houses made of plastic & OSB have no true value & that's a surprise ??? It's all temporary housing dumb fucks U-all paid for 1/2 mil for an illusion :P
No, of course not. ... ( 2 weeks ago by ourearthhome)
No, of course not. You landscaped your yard and the value it adds to your property belongs to you. Landscaping is another form of improvement just like your house. When the local property taxing authority comes along and increases the assessed valuation of your property based on new improvements you make, it is a form of theft. The ideas is to change the property tax to a land value tax only.
