If you do a static stretch after each body part it will not only help with soreness but will expand your muscle fibers so your muscles have more room to grow!!! I do this every time I do any workout and have seen phenomenal results! All you have to do is hold a stretch for 60-90 seconds and it is going to HURT! But it works.

Hi. All the latest stretching books I've read recommend dynamic stretching and or gradual increased ROM for a WARMUP then static or isometric type stretching as you demonstrate always after a workout as the cool down/stretch. It seems the stretches shown here are insufficient for a warm-up, improving strength or to improving flexibility. Is stretching for body building supposed to follow different methods than for something like martial arts? Have you read Pavel's book RELAX INTO THE STRETCH?

Actually Pavels stretches should NOT be done prior to workout. (We had a discussion with Pavel and he agreed) Nor should You ever use Static stretching and it cause ischemia in the muscle and is then susceptable to injury.
Active Isolated Stretching can be done anytime!! its a great warm up and also can be done PRE event. Michael Johnson used it to warm up instead of going out on the track in Atlanta Olympics!

dynamic stretching is when you swing and move your body. static stretches is when you hold the stretch like in this video. look up dynamic stretches here on youtube and you'll see videos to show you examples.
