The comments by googlesux are those of a young person that thinks JoyDivision is all hype. They where totally original in their time. The raw, low tech sound is noise to some. To be in school during the late 70s, hearing this music for the first time and have it move you like nothing before or since is hard for some to understand. I'm not unique judging by how defensive JD fans become. Best band ever 2 me.

No, you're not making sense. You're just making subjective judgments. Who's better is a matter of personal taste, or else we'd all like the same music. There are many things that makes him/them great to me which may not be important to you. Ian's voice touches many of us in a powerful way that you may not be able to receive. We all operate on different frequencies, and are strongly affected by different things. I dislike the Cure, but I wouldn't try and tell you they suck, how childish.

Actually, I am almost 40. I don't think Joy Division is all hype. I just don't see much in Ian Curtis. The other guys were clearly carrying his weight...

I guess so. I actually care about the music. It seems a lot of other people care more about the musician's personality than the music he/she makes. Also, I don't think music is totally a matter of personal taste. I really don't care what you say about the Cure.

Music is very much a matter of personal taste, and you cannot account for it. I think Ian had an amazing voice, deep, intimate, powerful and expressive of the pain one can feel living in this world. It's not a "beautiful" voice, but I'm not one for pretty voices. Ian was also the key figure in directing/selecting the rifts of Joy Division. If you read the book on him, you would see this. He was the center and the driving force of Joy Division, and w/o him, New Order would be irrelevant today.

Radiohead's cover is the most enjoyable version of this song...
That being said, I think Joy Division is one the greatest bands. I don't sense any pretense in their music - something that i can say about very few bands. And i think that quality made for their widespread influence

I agree on the personal taste front. I think 24 hour party people was a pretty good portrail of Joy Division early days and how the Manchester scene was born.
I never tire of listening to their tracks, although there aren't that many due to Ian Curtis's untimely death. My favourite track is 'These days'.
