It was a Buddy Rich sound groove from the early years. If the snare is brought up alittle and learned forward,, toward the toms, you get a sustained rim shot effect,, always there and can't be changed in mid song,,, of course. Hope this helps :-)

Neil used to practice to Buddy Rich, fantastic drummer from along time ago. Buddy had his snare high as well and leaned toward the front right for rim shots... Ya gots to adapt your own playing after that,, just a thought :-) Be safe and well polock2112 :-)

This is absolutely amazing. There is nothing more pure than to see a master perform his art. Neil is like God on drums and will always remain one of my biggest influences. It's hard to believe I bought this albumn 10 years ago.

Neil is one of the greatest drummer's to ever live. He is simply amazing. He inspire's me even though i'm a guitarist. He's just so great. I love Rush. All of them are spectacular musicians.

test for echo was recorded right before the events that resulted in neil going pretty much suicidal and inspired him to write ghost rider. he did this because his young daughter, selena, died in a car crash, and his wife died of cancer either about eight months before or after that. this i beleive was recorded after that and he is im sure drumming with all his emotion here. this is off the DVD "A Work In Progress" and the song, i personally thing the best of of Test For Echo, is Resist.god bless

Neil is truely amazing. i love the lyrics he writes, because they acualy mean somthing. they not just random words put into a song. like this song (im almost positive) was writen after his wife and daughter died. he puts his emotions into his writing and playing. thats just one reason why he inspires me.
