Yep, I'll never forget that game. My Bears didn't even show up. I was a freshman in HS and boy was I bummed at school the following Monday. Bears beat the Niners on MNF earlier that year 10-9 but then got owned when it really counted (playoffs).
Great stuff though. I love watching these commercials and NFL intros from the 80's. Brings back some fond memories.

IIRC, Phyllis George left NFL Today a few years earlier and Jimmy "The Greek" was fired the season before. Irv Cross was still part of this telecast as was Musburger. But in the places of George and The Greek were Will McDonough and Dick Butkis. Poor Butkis had to watch his old team get owned on that cold day!

Oh yes they did! In '84 NFC Title game(23-0 49ers win); In '87 MNF game(41-0 49ers win); In '88 NFC Title Game(28-3 49ers); in '89 wk 16 (26-0 49ers).
The only time the Bears beat the 49ers were in '83,'85, and '88(all in the regular season)

Not to mention that 52-14 whooping the niners handed the Bears in the '91 season finale. That loss cost the Bears the division title and a first round bye. The following week the Bears lost to the Cowboys in the wild card round 17-13 at Solider Field.

I could only imagine how pissed the director was that the beauty shot after the open was of Lake Michigan instead of the skyline. The chopper guys were immediately in "Oh sh*t" mode and tried their best to get the right shot, but unfortunately their efforts only caused the audience to get really dizzy. Other than that, this was typical CBS Sports quality.

Ha! I was at that game. During the TV Timeouts, the field announcer would rotate public addresses from a) "Everyone get up and stamp your feet for warmth" and b) "The first signs of frost bite are....If you feel these symptoms come to the main concourse health center."

No, I'm actually not a niners fan; however, when you wax sentimental over a game that, ahem, "you were at", it usually implies that it was a pleasant experience and your team won. You were obviously not at the game, or simply thinking of another one because that game was a complete, unmitigated disaster for the Bears and one of, if not the biggest, disappointment in their entire history. Not something to gloat over, at all. Sorry!
