Syd Barrett - Bob Dylan Blues

Song originally written by Syd as a teen during the height of Bob Dylan mania in Europe (pre-Pink Floyd).
During the recording of one of his solo albums (post-Pink Floyd), Syd was reminded of this track by producer David Gilmour & encouraged to record it. That tape stayed in Gilmours possession for 30+ years until released in 2001. In "Bob Dylan Blues", Syd not only composes a song poking fun at all of the Bob Dylan hype, but manages to do it in Bob Dylan's own walking blues style!
The music video is by director Jimmy Lee. It was made during his freshman year of college at Temple University in Philadelphia. This was his first attempt at editing a video on a computer.

I don't think i said that in fact, my point is absolutely the opposite. For my understanding, Syd's contribution to the bands successful sound and musical career was pretty much minimal. While he was their early leader and main creative force in their beginnings, as well as his life and deeds the best inspiration they could ever had, what he did as musical work is very poor compared to their later efforts without him.

I do not see the genius in Barrett: he was a very cherished friend, a truly charismatic person and a strong leading figure to The Pink Floyd, but not a very skilled performer, lyricist or composer. His merit to Floyd's success is mostly inspirational and not really musical. He was no genius, just a beginner like all of them back then.

I no and ur the only person on this page thinking logically rather than being blinded by some obsession with dead rock stars. And to be quite honest, his mistakes and downfall were more of an inspiration to the band than his deeds..if syd didnt lose it there would be no lunatic on the grass or crazy diamonds to sing about. Dont get me wrong wat happened to syd is awful but he ultimately did it to himself.

love this song, syd nails it, great humor. One thing about syd....he suffered from terrible mental illness and in the 60's mental illness was not understood or accepted. commonly the sufferer (syd) would self medicate with drugs or booze. cut the guy a break when all the nay-sayers call him a burned out druggie loser. you don't know what schizophrenia is like. his mind gave out not because of drugs but because of sickness. peace and love

bob dylan was a good writer but his hype was a complete joke, and syd points that out in an amazing and funny way. fuck the naysayers. syd barrett is the best.
