Jr. Walker & The All Stars - Shotgun

Uploaded by: Sixtiesalltheway
Video Description:
Here's a somewhat forgotten (at least if you compare them to some other acts from the same label) Motown combo, who had many hits between 1965 and 1972. "Shotgun" was one of the biggest.

Jr. Walker was the only artist who Berry Gordy didn't want to be 'primed' in sound and appearance as were the other acts of Motown. Jr's style was downhome grits and chicken grease, and by Berry letting him alone to do what he did best (cut his sh@t in the studio and leave to do his live gigs, which he loved best...lol), was the best thing that Berry could ever had done for the both of them. The result of that is timeless, classic music that never gets old, and always sounds FUNKY! :)

1965 or 66? Danced to Junior at the Cheetah night club in Times Square, B'way and 50th St I think. So hot! So cool!
I was 16 but "borrowed" my older brother's draft card for ID to get in. The other times I went there Wilson (Wicked) Pickett and then The (Young ?) Rascals were playing. What was cool about the crowd was it was totally mixed racially which was still pretty new then and everyone was cool... because music makes it that way.!
Thanks for posting all these great clips!

Jr. got it right!!
Even better live - saw him in NYC at
The Ritz and The Lone Star - those were 2 of the most memorable concerts ever and I've seen them all (Janis, Hendrix, Airplane etc).
25-30 yrs ago - feels like yesterday.
I also saw him at The Saratoga Jazz festival around 1992 where he stole the freak'n show.
There were top bills there; Chuck Mangione, Gato(also a hero of mine),Michael Brecker etc.
Jr. kicked everyone's asses big time!!
RIP big guy.....miss you
