I just thought that Matthew Fox is an excellent actor.
I have just finished watching the season 4 finale, and this season 3 finale is the perfect scene to conclude or answer some of your questions. So the funeral is for Jeremy Betham, who comes out as John Locke,( revealed in season 4) who told them to go back to the island. I cant wait for the season 5.... great, great show.

because john locke on the island, is responsible for boones death, the girl who parashuted onto the islands death, (threw a knife at her back) I think her name was naomi. He blew up the submarine which would have allowed jack to get off the island in season 3, he basically sabataged every chance of them getting off the island. so she has a good reason to hate him.
