I agree with ... ( 3 weeks ago by juanbarros88)
I agree with Copeland being unique and he did contribute a lot to the genre he plays and has influence many players, some mix some of copeland licks and stuff with their own playing, but on someone like VInnie is not such a big influence, and being the influence doesnt mean being more skilled, Cause VInnie is obviously more skilled, but he respects Copeland. And dont listen TOO much to what he says, listen to what he plays.

the term ''better" in Music has more to do w/ the taste of the listener. In my opinion Vinnie is better. or we can say better in terms of Techniue or better uderstanding of Polyrhythms and rhythms as a whole. But lets not say better in these cases, lets just say more skilled.
Look, I have some of Copeland in me, but Im not stuck on him and not that much impressed with his playing anymore, I found other great players I enjoy more, its more fun to listen to some more complex stuff

More evidence you've never read interviews with Vinnie about his having to play Police tunes on Sting tours.

Perhaps you get more satisfaction from listening to Vinnie.
I don't happen to just focus on one instrument when I listen to music, I listen to the entire ensemble. I like the Police more than any band ever, so that's "better" to my tastes.
I love what Vinnie did on "Shut up and Play your Guitar".
but I think someone ... ( 3 weeks ago by juanbarros88)
but I think someone like Vinnie, being as highly skill as he is, what he says of Copeland is more out of respect. Vinnie is much more skiled and capable. The Police, which I really like (I have all their albums), I believe started in 1977, by that year VInnie was out of Berklee and by 79' was already with Zappa. When VInnie was with Sting, I know he played some Police tracks, and Obviously he wanted to listen to the original, so could get kinda like the idea.
He might have ... ( 3 weeks ago by juanbarros88)
He might have listen to Police records before Sting, just because of curiosity or just to enjoy something different, 'cause in general Berklee Students dont usually listen to Rock. Listening to Copeland could've been different and he could've gotten something out of it... 'great thing he did there', but it wouldn't have been that influencial to get him out of his own music journey. The one he considers his sensei is Tony Williams, and he wasnt replaced. Listen to his playing not his interview
You cant expect ... ( 3 weeks ago by juanbarros88)
You cant expect much from a person who considers Copeland their mentor, I mean as far as skill goes, you could be famous like the Beatles, but you wont be expected to be a great skilled top musician. There much more beyond Copeland. So, In my case I want to be a great skill player, not just popular like the Rolling Stones. btw, Of course I also listen to the music, im not just into rhythm, I enjoy harmony/melody too, I play piano as a secondary instrument.
What's likely for ... ( 3 weeks ago by juanbarros88)
What's likely for me to hear out of here, is just a response of fans that lack knowledge, or Rock musicians who cant get out of the rock(or any of its subgenres, not Jazz Fusion)
atmosphere. But is okay as long as you enjoy it, Right? I just happen to explore beyond Rock and I eventually liked what I hear, thanks God I discover Jazz Fusion snd learned to like it, now I've been learning more stuff, better stuff and faster and I enjoy music much more, something I can get out of Rock as often.

That's such an absolutist statement.... and, of course, you don't back up that conjecture with any evidence, so as it stands it lacks merit.
Your comments ... ( 3 weeks ago by larkydozer)
Your comments actually are proving you to be a immature musician who's obviously so enamored of technique and the genre of Jazz/Fusion that you're unable to conceive of skill as being apart from technique, or chops, as a concept.
The most asinine comment you've made was when you claim to know Vinnie Colauita's intentions when he made a remark in an interview you've never read.

Ok, no problem. You like Copeland, I like Vinnie, there the answer, its art so we are free to judge, to like. But sure I wont disrespect your taste any longer. I'll accept other how they are and what they like. I cant argue about this, I just cant. I cant always make people change their mind, I'll just let them enjoy what they like and let them think what they want. lets leave it as a matter of taste.

I'd just point out that if there was any real problem, it's in your insistence that you know what Vinnie's inner thoughts are when he remarked about Stewart in an interview which you hadn't read.
Bizarre.
ok since you insist ... ( 2 weeks ago by juanbarros88)
ok since you insist... Fisrt I never said I know about Vinnie's inner thoughts. now influence or not, Vinnie's level is greater than Copeland's and this has nothing to do with taste. I listen a lot to Vinnie Colaiuta and I have all Police records. I dont see that much of an influence, He might have incorparated some of Copeland's 'licks', but VInnie has his own more complex stuff. and his sensei is Tony Williams. Are you for real into drums or are you just an interview reader?

I think that as a professional Vinnie has respect for all other players and talks nice bout them. Imagine a Drummer like that dizzing other drummers. I might b exaggerating but really it doesnt look good if u dont talk good bout others. I was really into Copeland, but sorry Fusion got in the way, we cant have fun together. by the time the police was out VInnie was already at another level and he was influenced by Tony WIlliams before that, perhaps Copeland just came n gave him a few ideas

By the way, I still like Copeland. It seemed that I hated Copeland, but I stil like his playing. Its just that I dont have him in my top list anymore. I prefer so many others. I feel right about what Im saying so im good, if you dont agree with me, well I guess we're not on the same page, I must be ahead, hehehe. Ask Copeland about it, I think he accepts Vinnie is at another level but who knows he might deny it, I dont think he's that deaf like you

"ok since you insist... Fisrt I never said I know about Vinnie's inner thoughts."
You sure did. Here's the relevant quote...
"but I think someone like Vinnie, being as highly skill as he is, what he says of Copeland is more out of respect."
You claim to possess knowledge which you could not possibly possess, that is, that Vinnie meant something other than what the words he spoke actually mean.
Are you a linguist too?

" I dont think he's that deaf like you"
Insults in lieu of a persuasive argument.
Array ( 2 weeks ago by larkydozer)
"level", "skill".
Since you don't define these terms that you bandy about, they could really mean just about anything. Is skill being able to play 64th note triplets with your feet? Or, is skill being able to play just the right notes to move millions of people's hearts to the beat of a memorable song? Or, is skill being able to demonstrate muscle memory at 200 bpm's?
You don't define any of your terms so most of what you forward as superlatives are left as vague notions.
