Despite the patriotic sound that it's got, it's pretty obvious. The foods he mentions, the terms and phrases he uses, "run through the jungle," Charleston Bay, etc. How can you seriously say otherwise?
It's not a reason to be upset about it either. In fact, it's a reason to like it even more; why do people try to not believe it?
and his "In Defense of America" is outstanding. Like me holding the original American flag and having a pro-war fascist come up to me applauding, and I tell him that we need to bring back the Bill of Rights and does he know any of them?
It's obvious that it's not a patriotic song and that the listener has to read between the lines.
The song itself is rather looming and depressing.
What you seem to forget is the the Blacks were sold into slavery by other Blacks.
For stupid people..this song is racist. they will read into the watermelon etc...
NEXT...irony... It is an anti racist song.
Lastly... the sail away? Does it mean... sail away to the US and YOU will find an new life and even after years of slavery find it the land of opportunity? OR...Sail away. BACK to where you come from?
What I trully love about this song is the many ways you can interpet it. FOR me...It is NOT AT ALL RACIST!
