Seltzer must have wings coming out of his back to be better than this. Marvin's '61 version shags Seltzner!

anyone who plays half decent guitar knows that hank is just a cosmetic guitarist...its all basic.....absolutely nothing clever...
Except his ... ( 5 months ago by StubfingeredDave)
Except his compositional skills, of course. And his tremelo and phrasing. Just like Dave Gilmour is nothing clever, but awesome. What does "clever" mean to you, guitar-wise? Speed? I guess Hank Marvin being one of the most widely known guitarists ever is pure coincidence. What he really needs is some goddamn sweep picking, sure enough!

miketribute1, It's basic playing but it does the job and it's incredibly tasteful don't you think? His tremolo work is brilliant and his bends are always pitch perfect. What more can you ask for? What do a song like this benefit from a 200 notes per second solo? Would some tapping or some diminished arpeggios make this better?

Hank Marvin is the King Of Melodic Guitar Playing! Tell me....who plays melodies nowadays?
miketribute1. Sure ... ( 3 months ago by tomgaf)
miketribute1. Sure he's no virtuoso but he has an excellent sense of melody and has his own trademark sound and don't forget that he's more than likely responsible for much better guitarists than himself picking up the instrument in the first place. If you do play guitar then from one guitarist to another it's not a competition, enjoy what you do and if others enjoy it even better

A very clean and tasteful player. As the great Count Basie once said-it's not not the notes you play, it's what you leave out. Are you listening, miketribute?

Vive Hank et long succès !!!!!

never mind the detractors, you have to be a world class guitarist to play melodies. There is no room for errors and no hiding place.Any Tom Dick or Harry can play fast music and cover their errors.Listen to Julian Bream playing the Vihuela or the Lute, and you will have reached the greatest master of the plucked strings.

I like that quote. Roger Waters was once quoted as saying he wasn't "fast" so he made sure everything he played was "pretty"..I think that's the word he used, and this is "pretty"... Nice post.

This the reason I started playing the guitar in 1960, was because of music like this, The guitar was my first love and I still play today and I am now 65 years old.
