Just what I was thinking. You can tell he has a lot of technical skill, and he gets some good bits off; but overall, he needs to think more about what he's playing.

Thanks for posting this gem, one of my favorite Genesis pieces, with stunning guitar work - love Cinema Show as well
Bass is meant to be ... ( 1 week ago by timpovikings)
Bass is meant to be in support of drums. Clearly the bassist has talent, but in this instance, it is often too much and almost always out of tune.
Genesis made this a drum and lead track, not a free-for-all or a bass highlight.
Sturmer puts too many extras in when he covers it and the bassist here is doing the same. Neither version has the haunting howl of the original and the original is uncluttered with surplus bass!

Yep! So like good -expensive- wine is not-free-for-all because some out theire have bad taste ,I mean their mouth is JUST not up to the point of APPRECIATION...so they mess with it like vagabonds-notting-better-to-do...It IS a shame how some mess with QUALITY of LIFE.

"Bass is meant to ... ( 4 days ago by kottmeier)
"Bass is meant to be in support of drums" As a drummer, I disagree. They can complement one another, and often do, but to say that the bass is meant to support the drums is a very rigid and limited view point, IMO. In my world, :-) there are no absolute rules like this in music (thank god) so what you are saying is your opinion of course. Personally, I love Wetton's approach to the bass on this song. It might be be a tad high in the mix, but I love what he does with it.

You're only 10 and you like Genesis. Man, you're living my life all over again kid! You've got good taste. Check out some of Mr. Hackett's solo work, you'll be very impressed. And if you see him in concert, you'll be hooked for life! :-)
Fair comment. ... ( 3 days ago by timpovikings)
Fair comment. Listen to Rutherford's pedal work, often sounding a single bass note for the beginning of each bar. The original FOF is beautiful and it's a lead and drum track.
Sturmer ruined it. This bassist is showing off on a Genesis classic that made its name without a bass line trying to cram in as much as possible.
This is a cover and SH obviously approves, but he's lost the Gibson howl of Seconds Out and Wetton should play less. He may hit less bum notes that way!

Some nifty rhythm guitar work here also. agree on Wettons bass approach
