Wow, Harry is truly a master of the trumpet. His chops are so amazing it's almost unbelievable. It's incredible how they stay centered even through those frantic 16th runs. Many many thinks for uploading this. It's always a treat to watch a master at work.

Pretty sick, the riff at 1:00 is very similar to the 3rd variation of the "Grand Russian Fantasia" for trumpet. Wynton actually plays that song on the cd "Carnival" and it's pretty ridiculous

Well, it's not really jazz... It's a composed piece of music that borrows from elements traditionally associated with jazz. The extended techniques used classify it as outside of what was generally accepted as classical at the time, though.

From what I know about Wynton he seems to view "real jazz" as music from a specific time period, pretty much excluding other eras like the swing era, and even a lot of progressive jazz from now, but he's right about this though, it's not classifiable as jazz.

i dont like wynton at all. harry james whoops his ass any day. the best musicians were the classical ones. Benny goodman is another example. not saying ppl like maynard and sandoval are bad, theyre actually insanly insane! but clasic players like james, or arban just blow me away with their playing.
