The movie/story is timeless. It could work in any era, by just changing a few props. I saw this flick on HBO, long, long, ago, when Cable TV was the new thing.
Nostalgia for a counselor to the President, who has no past and whose words are always applicable, even though the are meaningless.

Forest Gump stole the plot from this. I like this a bit better. Notice that in both films, although the characters are simple minded, they are Christ-like in that they are "pure" of the twisted selfish thinkihg around them. Both Chance and Forrest improve people's lives and perform miracles because they are "blanks" in the mind or free of prejudice, hate, arrogance and other crap.

I saw this film in '79 or '80 and never forgot the impact of Peter Sellers' brilliance. Nor will I. If anyone hasn't seen the entire film, then for God's sake, RENT IT because truly it is a masterpiece. You'll feel so good after seeing it, you'll walk on water.
