My neighbor was Arvell Shaw and I can tell you that Barrett Deems did not play with The All Stars in the 50's he started playing during the 60. So the clip cannot come from 1954. In the 50's Sid Catlett and Cozy Cole played drums

Not from "Glen ...( 11 months ago by GERRY1939)
Not from "Glen Miller Story" in the film Cozy Cole is on drums & Babe Russin is on tenor sax. Barret Deems joined Louis in mid '54 and as Barney Bigard left Louis in September '55 this was obviously recorded between these dates, during which Louis did not leave the States. It looks like a private film taken in a club, rather than a concert hall to me and I don't know of any film it may be from. As a 16 year old I saw Louis at Empress Hall London in 1956 & have been a fan & collector ever since.

Thousands of great jazzmen-but "Satch" stands at the top. How many (few) notes does it take to know when he's the man on horn!!

Marbleann, you're wrong here. Check all albums, TV and film appearances the All Stars made between May 1954 and February 1958 and it will be Barrett Deems on drums. The MGM musical "High Society" was filmed in 1956 and there you'll see both Arvell & Barrett. Barrett was my good friend and drum teacher. Best wishes.
