Even if the Bible had only peaceful ideas in it (which is obviously false). Look at how men used their "faith" to justify so many atrocities (massacre of the saint Barthelemy, crusades, slavery, no opposition to Hitler). Politics/Power + Faith is a deadly combination. I prefer Reason and Humanism to Faith.

I have no a need nor ambition to disparage, vilify you nor people because I believe every human being has the same value as me. Phil, the teachings of Jesus which you have said are good these i encourage you to read again.
Men will always rip off that which is good.
Only on that day when mans feet will no longer tread this pain filled sod will there be true happiness.
Man is the creator of all of his own pain.

Yes Steve, men do so because of their fear of anything different and of the unknown, because of intolerance, because they think thay are 'right', because they do not wonder often enough if they're actually right or wrong. Men need to be skeptic, to use his own reason first, to be tolerant, to reject violence as long as possible, not to take what they've been taught for granted.
Religion is a useful tool for any smart guy to manipulated the uneducated crowd. And I think there are enough ambiguous texts in the Bible to justify a lot of crimes.
That's why I reject Religion, not its contents (or worshippers) but how it is given to people.
There is no problem with Jesus, it's just that what his 'father' wrote on the bible is a bit less tolerant (Lev18.22: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination" => intolerance against gays).
