It's encouraging to see MSNBC showing youtube videos on their channel without asking the creators, offering compensation or even giving them credit. What's even more interesting is that Viacom has done the same thing.

Viacom goes to senate, says "We lost all this money! Look at the stats we got from YouTube! Pass this legislation!" And the senate dutifully (money drives most of them) and passes the "Orphan Works Act". Now, any content *not* registered with the copyright office is *theirs* to do whatever they wish with it.

Dude, invasion of privacy isn't cool...it's not up there with funny accidents and energy drinks...
Question though, I'm from Canada, so does that mean Viacom has my info too? Cuz it's the US Senate that voted on this, so can they take my info because of the ruling comming from a different country? Might be a stupid question, i don't know, but i'm curious as to how that works.

Yes, Google stores every click, every IP and how long you watch each video.
A law needs to be passed that forces Google to delate such information in every country.

People, its not ... ( 1 week ago by coder58)
People, its not invasion of privacy, you think the internet is for you own private use? Get real! Everything you do on the internet is recorded, thats just the nature of the beast. As for VIACOM, they are just trying to protect their own material. People need to be more responsible on what they post on websites.
Before talking about "invasion of privacy" crap in relation to the internet, get a book about it and learn how the internet works. Its just that simple!
wrong, it was the ... ( 1 week ago by votethirdpartynow)
wrong, it was the people who paid for the wires and infrastructure of the net - the people who own the airwaves - it's the 4th amendment that has been violated -
as far as copywrite it's call fair use and any laws are only a matter of Congress.
it's just that simple.
You need to read ... ( 1 week ago by votethirdpartynow)
You need to read the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Viacom asked a court for the entire Google key stroke database - you do know that Google stores every key stroke you make on all it's products, including You Tube, right? That means ever video you watch, how long and how many times you watched it etc. is what Viacom wants. The court ruled in Viacoms favor. So if you ever watched anything that was copy written you're guilty as hell and Google can prove it.
